Adult Education Programs
Learners from CWEP’s programs are typically from the geographic area of Kensington (19125 zip code) – one of the poorest neighborhoods in Philadelphia. Census data indicates that in the 19125 zip code: 13% are unemployed, which is more than double the City average of 4.6%; 29% of Kensington residents live within 150% of the poverty level; the per capita income is $12,720; and 50% of the children live in poverty. Ninety-five percent of our client population is considered vulnerable or at-risk based on socio-economic factors. Single women who are heads-of-household account for eighty-five percent of our clients. Many of these women have criminal backgrounds and/or live in violent homes.
